I've always wanted to be a character modeler, but for one reason or another I just haven't gotten around to investing the time needed to make it happen. I've attempted to get into it a few times and this model is one example of that. I didn't want to try something crazy hard for my first attempt, so I thought Stewie from "Family Guy" might be fairly simple place to start.
The transition from 2D reference to 3D model was actually pretty challenging. I modeled the base mesh in ZBrush 3.1 using Zspheres (my first time ever) and then did some tweaking in Max. I actually had a lot more detail sculpted in (then you see here) but I had a problem with the displacement map and had to ditch it. So I ended up just exporting the medium res model from Zbrush.
