Welcome to the first project in the 'Prop Modeling 101' series. This series is aimed specifically at beginners and those new to modeling in 3dsmax. In part one of our first project, we'll walk through the entire process of building a simple table prop. We'll go through the modeling process in depth, and discuss a variety of different poly modeling tools and techniques we can use to create our model. We'll also discuss the use of proper topology when cutting holes into subdivided surfaces, as well as building screws and mapping high poly geometry.
With our model completely built and UV Mapped, we'll move on to part two. Where we'll start things off by organizing our UV's and combining them onto a single texture sheet. From there we'll head over to Photoshop and create the simple Diffuse and Bump Maps needed for our wood material. To complete the texturing process, we'll head back over to Max and create some simple paint and chrome shaders for the screws and table top. Finally to complete the project, we'll do a quick and easy light setup and render out our finished prop. |
