Modeling A Roof Hatch In 3ds Max (For Beginners)
v
Software Required - 3ds Max 9
Project Length - 1 Hour, 50 Minutes
Video Format - Embedded Flash (.flv)
Video Resolution - 1280x798
Publisher - Cgtuts+ (Envato)

In this Cgtuts+ exclusive tutorial aimed at beginners, we'll walk through the entire process of building a detailed medium resolution roof hatch model in 3dsmax. We'll go through the modeling process in depth and discuss a variety of different poly modeling tools and techniques. Including the use of support edges and proper topology when creating holes in subdivision surfaces.

To start things off, we'll analyze our reference image and then construct the actual hatch portion of the model. From there we'll move onto the door itself, where we'll discuss some quick tips for adding detail to help make the model more realistic and "sellable" as a real world object. With the larger pieces in place, we'll start adding in the support structure for the railing and then build in the railing system itself.

From there we'll start building in the smaller detail pieces, like the mounting brackets, bolts and door handle. Finally we'll look at a quick and easy technique for building and positioning the chain.
