In this 3D Studio Max tutorial, we'll be going through the entire process of creating a studio lighting setup in Max using Vray lights and materials. We'll start the project off by creating the studio environment itself. It's a very simple scene to model and setup and really only consists of a smooth backdrop for our model to sit on. (I'll be using a simple torus for the sake of demonstration, but you can use your own model if you like).

We'll try to create the backdrop so it will mimic what you'd find in a real world studio environment. This will not only give our render a nice looking seamless background, but it will also provide a surface for our bounce lighting. Once we have the scene setup and our materials created and applied, we'll add in the lights and camera. After some test renders and tweaks, I'll show you how to add an HDRI image to the environment that we can not only use for additional lighting, but reflections as well.

We'll discuss antialiasing filters, Global Illumination and Irradiance maps as well as various tweaks we can make to the render settings to remove unwanted noise and grain and improve the quality of our final renders.
